Duration of the sponsorship

In aggregate the scholarship lasts for a period of four (4) years from the year of the award or until the beneficiary ceases to be a student in a public secondary school. Poor performance and/or indiscipline by the student is sufficient grounds for the Foundation to discontinue the scholarship.

The main challenges that The JKF faces in administering the program

During the selection process a number of applicants from able families pretend to be desperate and even present false documents to proof that they are needy. Such people deny students from poor families a chance to get education. The public is encouraged to volunteer information on such applicants who may be allocated scholarship opportunities after presenting false documents. The other challenges that the programme faces include:
  • Schools that do not inform the JKF about students who have dropped out of school and the JKF continues paying fees for such students.

How the scholarship programme is funded

The Scholarship programme is funded from revenue generated by books published and sold by the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation. Consequently, the capacity to provide scholarships is directly related to the foundation’s level of profits which varies from year to year depending on the business environment.
