JKF marks World AIDS Day

HIV and AIDS are without doubt matters of global concern. It's sensible, therefore, that the human race has time to take stock of their trend with the aim of reducing spread, suffering and stigma. Consequently, the first of December is commemorated as World AIDS Day.

JKF was at the forefront in sensitizing the staff and public on issues related to HIV and AIDS. Various build-up activities were launched on November 27, 2009, culminating in a colourful ceremony at the Main Boardroom on December 1, 2009.

Following are the highlights of the weeklong celebrations:

>
Staff donated clothes, foodstuffs and money; JKF donated books. The items were presented to NIEC Mission Centre located at Kwa Reuben Slums. The Centre has 79 children aged between 2 and 12 years.

>
A mobile Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), was put up at the premises. A total of 23 Staff visited the facility.

>
The Jomo Kenyatta Foundation HIV and AIDS Workplace Programme was officially launched.

>
A HIV and AIDS sensitization campaign was carried out courtesy of Mrs. Lydia Chege from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), and two teachers who are living positively.

On the overall, the World AIDS Day celebrations at JKF were a success story. We now know better. We can impact positive changes in ourselves and others. Tuchukue Control Wasee!!
